Chad, located in Central Africa, is officially known as the Republic of Chad and it is a landlocked nation. Main source of export earnings has been crude oil, since 2003. However, before oil, cotton was the main industry that attracted foreign investment. Cotton is still a major export commodity. The south is ideal for the cultivation of cotton and peanuts because of ample rainfall. Other crops are sorghum, millet, rice, potatoes and manioc. Livestock raised in Chad include Cattle, sheep, goats and camels. Chief industries of Chad are oil, meatpacking, cotton textiles, natron (sodium carbonate), soap and construction materials. |
